Post-Barge Life

Satisfied Viking clients on the quai.

We left our Bourgie Barge, The "Buri," yesterday after 8 days.  Now we have to tote our luggage, arrange travel, and find our own food.  Shite.

Speaking of arranging travel, we booked a bus for Nice @ 10 am, and it was seen leaving the pickup spot @ 9.30am - stranding 7 (!) paying customers.  So we are 'stuck' in Avignon for an additional 2 nights.  Not such a bad place to be stranded.

Where the bus should have been.
A Roman walled city
Most of this Roman bridge got washed away by the Rhone.
Imho, Avignon was the best destination of this river cruise.  (Your mileage may vary.) There are MANY more Avignon photos to come in a later post.

Here are some photos of the Buri, while I still remember it:

Front half

Back half - it's over 100 meters long
Buri was a Viking god nurtured by cows at a salt lick (I don't get it either), and spawned Odin:

In case you're curious about the accomodations, we had one of the cheap cabins down on the water line, and it had everything we needed:

Commodious!
(Note SF Cap on door)

World's most expensive miniature golf.

Les Gitans, 1/2 of the Gypsy Kings, showed up on the final night.

So did the Capitain, in a goofy chapeau.

Aussie Amigos Christine and Tim

Olivia and Friends

Shirley and Daughter - shoulda seen the Grand-Daughers!

Photos of the restaurant, bar, and Aquavit Café, the sources of massive excess water retention, are in 2017 posts.

Fortunately, our hotel in Avignon has a tiny yoga studio:

Note: try to practice more than once a week - it's much easier that way.
